But Did You Know We Have Used Shelving? E-mail

What is versatile, sturdy, and can handle the weight of 40 pound bags of dog food with ease? Gondola Shelving! You might know it as grocery store shelving or perhaps by one of the brand names: Lozier, Madix, or maybe even Streeter. What you might not know is that it has uses outside of a grocery store or convenience store setting. Do you have a basement? Back room? Garage? Church food bank? If you have the room and a need for heavy duty organization, we have the solution!

Beauty or Beast?

It might not be pretty but gondola shelving more than makes up for that in strength. It's designed to take a beating, which is part of why it's a good item to purchase used. Why buy new when you can buy used and save money! We generally have used gondola shelving in a variety of prices, conditions, and colors. If you need it to be functional but aren't as concerned with the look, you can save money buying parts with mismatched colors or parts that have been subject to rougher use. Either way, you can be assured that your shelving will be functional, sturdy, and cost effective.

Would you like that supersized?

Gondola shelving is very customizable. It is comprised of two upright pieces with pegboard in between. The base and shelves are attached to the uprights to complete each unit. It is sold in increments of 3 or 4 linear feet, depending on the brand. You can also put multiple units together for a run. This means that each run will take up floorspace in 3 or 4 foot increments but you can choose the height and depth of the run. To decide what height you would like, consider the area intended for set up, whether or not you need to be able to see over the unit, how many shelves you need, and how much space is required between each shelf. The shelf depth or depths (you can choose more than one), determines the overall depth of the unit. An easy way to get more out of your fixture budget is to use double sided gondola shelving. On average, you pay less per square foot and get double the storage space. Of course, you need to make sure that you have floorspace enough to allow easy access to both sides of the unit.

Toe kick? Isn't that ballet?

Once you have decided on the basic unit and how many runs of it you will you require, you might be asked about extras like base plates and toe kicks. They are not structurally necessary but they give the unit a more finished look. If you intend to use the runs in a warehouse or garage setting, you can probably skip them but if you are using the runs in a public space, you might consider the extra cost. End caps are exactly what they sound like – a unit meant to cap off the end of a run. They are great if you have multiple runs and want to make more use of the space at either end. If you're not sure what you need or if Gondola Shelving is for you, stop by the warehouse or shoot us an email. We love to help! Besides, haven't you always wondered what we keep in our basement...
