We carry mannequins and clothing forms. The difference is that a mannequin is a full body from head to toe and a form could be just the torso. For more detailed information read below...
Mannequins can be different shapes and colors but to be a mannequin you need arms, legs, a torso and generally a head. If the mannequin has a head and the face has a regular nose, eyes, mouth and ears then we call this a “full featured” mannequin. It is possible to be a mannequin and be headless or to have a head that has no features, we call these mannequins “egg head” mannequins. Mannequins can be made of many materials including fiberglass and plastic. How many pieces a mannequin comes in depends on the line but some break apart pretty completely and with some only the arms come off. Forms can come in different styles also. There are “dress” forms that usually include a torso; they are meant to display clothes but generally they won't have arms. They tend to be hollow with a wooden shell that is covered by some kind of fabric, usually a linen or jersey material. You will also find forms like this that only go from the shoulder to the waist and may or may not have the start of the hips. There is an economy form called a molded or vacuum form that is plastic that has been molded to look like the front of a person. They are hollow and because they have no back, they will lay flat against a wall. These forms are particularly well-suited to our customers who are vendors at weekend festivals and those who travel from show to show because they are lightweight and durable. We always seem to have lots of used forms around that are in good shape and remember, you will put clothes on them so they don't have to be pretty. |
