SAFEty

Like the name implies, safes can make your store a safer place. No one likes to think about being robbed or employee theft but surely it's better to be SAFE than sorry. (bad pun, bad) But seriously, where better to keep important documents, company checks, petty cash, and large bills from registers? Many employees would rather not have large amounts of money in the cash register, which can make them a target for robbery. Some safes are also fireproof, which might be a good option if you leave items in them regularly, rather than emptying them nightly. Speaking of nightly deposits, it is best NOT to keep multiple days' deposits in your safe but to deposit them daily if at all possible, especially if you accept checks.

Choice

Now that you've been swayed by our superior logic and are convinced that a safe is a worthy investment, what kind should you get? Ask yourself what will be going in the safe, where the safe will go, and who will need access to what you put in the safe. Safes come in a variety of sizes, from the small under counter mounting to the very large (think Italian Job). Some are made to accommodate multiple drawers and users and thus have separate entry codes. We use a medium size safe with a drop box. The drop box allows anyone to be able to put the safe but limits who can take them out. And speaking of the Italian Job, if you choose a smaller safe, it is best to mount it to something substantially larger and harder to grab and run.
