When most stores open, one of the first items an owner will purchase is a cash register or a computer point of sale system. Before you invest in a fancy new cash register or an even fancier point of sale system, we suggest you ask yourself what kind of pricing system you will be using. That's right, price tags can tell you what kind of register you need. Would we lie to you?

Price tags are cool!
Price tags can be as simple as one line with a price or as detailed as a computer generated SKU (Stock Keeping Unit) that you scan. To decide what you need, first take a look at your inventory. If you sell food, you might need to be able to put a sell by date, as well as a price. If you have a showroom with examples and a back room with actual stock, you might need a SKU that can keep track of inventory in stock and location of said stock. If you have consignment items, you might need a perforated tag with one half that you can keep. Whew, who knew there were so many options?

Receipts rock!
Next, think about your customers. How detailed will their receipts need to be? Is a price enough or will they need a line item description as well as a price? A cash register receipt can include price only or a category and a price. For anything more detailed than that, you might need a point of sale system. If you need to track serial numbers, keep a detailed inventory, and track your customers' purchases, we would definitely suggest looking into a point of sale system and there are a LOT to choose from. Ask around at similar businesses and see if they would recommend the system that they use. Do your homework before investing!

Cash registers come to us in various states. Sometimes we don't have a key or a manual for the machine but most companies offer an online version of the manual and you can send away for a master key. We're not electrical experts, so we guarantee all used electronic items to run or you can return them for cash back within 10 days of purchase. With a little bit of work on your part, a used register can save you money!
