Okay, they actually aren’t that bad…

Well, maybe just a bit annoying.

We recently had OSHA show up at our business to inspect our facility. Now, as you read this, please remember these people are here to help prevent accidents in the work place, and we would all like to avoid these. OSHA – Occupational Safety and Health Administration – It’s right there in the name – Safety and Health.

The inspectors sat down with us and went over what they wanted us to fix or change and explained why. And yes, they did fine us, but they also heavily discounted the fines because we are a small business. The inspectors were polite and seemed genuinely concerned for the safety of our staff and our customers.

The whole point of this is to tell all of you wonderful internet followers that OSHA has a division that will come out and inspect your business for free (your Workman’s Comp pays for it). They will check out specific areas or do an overall inspection, whichever you prefer. They cannot fine you during these inspections – that would discourage voluntary participation! In a few weeks, we will be having our free site review so we’ll let you know how it goes.
