Wanna Paint a Picture?
Have you noticed the murals on the 2nd Avenue side of our building? If you haven't, you really should take a look because they are really awesome. We decided that, in an effort to make the Southeast Industrial area prettier, we needed to get a mural. So the first thing we did was contact the Regional Arts and Culture Council's Public Art Murals program. The murals program provides grants for public art. They have several deadlines throughout the year and, if you follow their instructions well, you might just get some money toward making your neighborhood more beautiful.
After reading all of the RACC guidelines, we needed to:
1. Get permission from the building owner to install our beautiful murals (which wasn't difficult since they work here).
2. Find a reputable artist with at least six examples of previous work who could create a digital image of what our proposed murals would look like. Let us know if you would like to speak to our artist, Teri Payton, about your mural needs.
3. Take pictures of the proposed mural sight and make plans for installation and maintenance of the murals.
4. Decide on a timeline for the project and all of the materials needed.
5. Fill out the appropriate applications and submit them after which you will present your proposal at a RACC Mural committee meeting.
It may sound like a lot to do, but think about how wonderful your building would look with a mural on it.
The RACC website also has a walking tour map of much the the public on the west side of Portland. Visit http://www.racc.org/public-art/mural-program for more information or give us a call and we can tell you more about our experience.
